Q. 思いつく、とか理解するというような意味でcome acrossという表現を見ることがありますが、どうしてこれで、理解するというような意味になるのでしょうか？

 A. I came across this interesting piece of information while looking through the files.というと、他の事をしていてたまたま知ったということです。I hope I didn't come across as being too aggressive.印象を与えるという風にも使います。白熊さんの例は、I came across this idea while hiking the other day.という感じですね。そんな感じに伝わってきた、渡ってきたというのが由来かと思います。
